The state of Texas sold the PMAB® materials and provided no certification for teaching the course outside of its own facilities. The purchaser was left to his or her own devices to figure out how to use the materials. Consequently, the integrity of the program and therefore its effectiveness was always in question. In effect, there was no quality control or option for consultation about the materials or how to use them.
The purpose of SAMA and the reason organizations use it, is to reduce the chance of injuries from aggressive behavior and to create a safe supportive environment where aggression is not likely to be acted out physically. By licensing the program rather than selling the materials, we can better help organizations meet those goals. Satori and the licensee form an on-going relationship that keeps the focus of safety clear and offers the kind of on-going consultation that we previously unavailable.
These are some of the key contrasts between the two programs. For a more detailed comparison contact the designer of the PMAB® and SAMA programs.
