Changes in Technology
The terminology is more descriptive than SAMA's predecessor and increases clarity and ease of understanding. Here are a few examples:
PMAB® teaches how to "restrain" people which implies that movement is eliminated while SAMA teaches "containment" which connotes limiting movement safely.
PMAB® teaches the "basket hold" which is not a correct description because the person is not hoisted like a basket while SAMA teaches the "elbow-to-hip containment" which describes the key element that makes the procedure effective.
PMAB® teaches "communication skills" which is not descriptive of what students learn while SAMA teaches the "Assisting Process" which is demonstrated and illustrated throughout the program.
The language of the principles that underlie the original program have been modified and one has been added:
